We’re playing a show Wednesday, 10pm at Pianos, and we’re psyched to share the bill with The Astounds. That’s the new-ish band from Dean Wells, aka The Capstan Shafts), now based out of St Louis. I just read their wikipedia page and learned they were one of “5 Artists You Should Have Known in 2010” according to Kevin Cole at KEXP/NPR. But Dean Wells has been churning out short, catchy cuts for much longer than that, and has been an inspiration to us Lame Drivers for well over a decade. Back in 2008, some of the Lame Drivers / Get Him Eat Him / 2nightmayorezz members played in Dean Wells’ backing band for Capstan Shafts’ NYC debut at the Knitting Factory. He returned with a band of his own later that year at The Charleston in Brooklyn, and we all set up a couple more shows together at Pi Lam in Philly in 2009, and in 2010 at Public Assembly. A lot has changed in the past decade, but Pianos still exists, and that’s where we’re sharing this bill.
